Lifetime Reading Scarcity Audit
Most people hoard unread books under the illusion of infinite time. If you read 10 books a year and have 40 years left, you will finish at most 400 volumes before you die. Stop tolerating mediocrity.
🛑 The Ruthless 50-Page Rule
Arthur Conan Doyle and Nancy Pearl popularized the rule: Subtract your age from 100. That is how many pages you give a book before abandoning it. If you are 50, give it 50 pages. If it hasn't gripped you, put it down forever. You have too few books left to suffer bad writing.
🏛️ Seneca on Reading Few Authors
In Letter II, Seneca writes: "To be everywhere is to be nowhere. People who spend their whole life traveling end up having plenty of places where they can find hospitality, but no real friendships. The same will happen to men who never apply themselves to master any one author."
📉 The Tsundoku Trap
