The Philosophy of 4,000 Weeks

If you live to be 80 years old, your life will consist of approximately 4,160 weeks. When we think of life in years, decades feel broad and inexhaustible. When you map your life as individual weekly squares, the true scarcity of human time becomes visceral.

As the Roman stoic philosopher Seneca observed over two millennia ago in On the Shortness of Life: "It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it. Life is long enough, and a sufficiently generous estimate has been given to us for the highest achievements if it were all well invested."

Why visualize time in weeks?

Days pass too quickly to register meaningful progress. Years feel abstract. Weeks are the human scale of productivity and intentionality.

What is Memento Mori?

A Latin phrase meaning "Remember that you must die." Historically practiced by stoics and thinkers as a tool to vanquish trivial anxiety and focus on what matters.

How does the wallpaper work?

Our generator computes your life dots dynamically in your browser and exports a high-definition image sized perfectly for mobile lock screens.

Is my personal birthdate private?

All calculations happen client-side in your own web browser. Your birthdate is never saved to external trackers.

E-E-A-T SCIENTIFIC GOVERNANCE // ACTUARIAL TRANSPARENCY

Data Methodology & Demographic Model Governance

Actuarial Data Sources

Calculations across TKR.Life are calibrated against empirical demographic datasets from recognized health authorities:

  • World Health Organization (WHO): Global Health Observatory (GHO) period life expectancy tables.
  • CDC / NCHS: United States National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) decennial life tables.
  • United Nations (UN DESA): Population Division World Population Prospects cohort models.
  • Human Mortality Database (HMD): Peer-reviewed demographic life tables (UC Berkeley & Max Planck).

Medical & Actuarial Safe Harbor

Not Medical, Clinical, or Actuarial Advice: TKR.Life is an algorithmic philosophy and behavioral self-reflection platform inspired by classical Stoicism (Memento Mori) and Oliver Burkeman’s 4,000-week thesis.

Statistical estimates (e.g. baseline 82.0-year lifespan model, remaining weeks, career weekends) represent population-level mathematical averages designed to cultivate temporal urgency and intentionality. Individual longevity is non-linear and shaped by genetics, personal health choices, clinical history, and environment.
